Hi There!
South Africa has been without a power cut for 40 days now, it has been really amazing seeing business operate and people able to cook dinner but we know it is short lived. Electctions are coming up in a couple of weeks and so our lovely corrupt government has been buying diesel to keep the lights on in the hope they will remain in power, which might be true.
Anyway our project is not about politics it is about the people and we know soon as election day is over load shedding will return and due to the cost of the fuel used to the build up it is likely to be worse than ever - we could be looking at up to 11 hours a day with no power. It will cripple our communities already struggling and so we have been busy installing solar panels to 70 homes, schools and businesses in the township fully funded through donations.
We would love to do more but the funds have run out but we have made a small dent in the issues to come as well as doing it in an environmentally friendly way using a renewable energy source in townships that have never seen this before.
There is so much more for us to do and we are looking at upskilling African workers to build renewable energy source systems to be made by south africans fo south africans so we do not need to purchase these items from China or overseas, with high import costs in Africa this opportunity will create employment, fight the power crisis and improve the sustainability of Africa.
Watch this space
Thanks,
Tyrone
