Dear friends,
For over 20 years, the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation has partnered with Native American tribes to bring the gift of fruit trees to their ancestral lands.
Our collaborative efforts have revealed a shared purpose – perennial tree crops as integral to food sovereignty, a fundamental aspiration of these communities. Access to quality, affordable, and local food is central to their health and identity, a cause championed for and led by Native activists for decades.
Orchards are part of food sovereignty. They yield fresh, seasonal, and nutritious produce which, critically, is accessible, thereby directly nourishing Native American communities. Through our Trees for Tribes initiative, fruit trees now flourish in schools, health centers, farms, and tribal homes.
This work must continue. New tribal nations seek our program annually, while previous partners request our help to extend existing orchards or plant additional ones. This includes our work this year with the Red Lake Chippewa, Saginaw Chippewa, Yurok Tribe, and Catawba Nation.
Currently, we're preparing expansive projects in Arizona and New Mexico for early next year, which will include the planting and distribution of hundreds of trees.
Your belief in Indigenous food rights empowers these endeavors. Each donation directly plants fruit trees, fortifying Native American communities' access to nourishing sustenance and regaining control over their own food destinies.
Join us in fostering this change. Support Indigenous food systems, making a lasting impact through your contribution.
