Dear friend,
We are excited to share an update from one of our Trees for Tribes orchards at Sandia Pueblo, New Mexico, where we recently visited to check on the trees, provide aftercare, and learn from our partners’ success.
What we saw is exactly why we do what we do.
Since this nearly 200-tree community orchard was planted in 2014, it has grown into a thriving, mature edible landscape that provides abundance for the entire Pueblo. So much so, that every family receives an average of three large grocery bags full of apples, pears, plums, and peaches delivered directly to their doorsteps each summer. At the end of the season, families are invited to enjoy the outdoors and glean any remaining fruit from the orchard.
This is our mission in action — creating sustainable sources of nutritious food within Indigenous communities, supporting food sovereignty initiatives led by Native peoples. We are deeply grateful to the Pueblo for their ongoing care and attention to the orchard, as well as for their shared vision with us a decade ago to cultivate this thriving community resource. Their expertise in nurturing the trees is invaluable, and we know it will be instrumental as we work to establish similar orchards in nearby tribal communities.
To further support their efforts, we also donated additional apricot trees to expand the orchard and ensure even more abundance in the future.
Thank you for your continued support and for making projects like this possible — your donations are critical in helping us create these orchards.
Here’s to a fruitful future for all Native peoples!
