Dear Friend,
Summer is here, and so is our next Trees for Tribes project! This June we are very excited to be returning to Minnesota to plant for the second year in a row with the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians of northern Minnesota. Last year we worked closely with our partners in the state as well as with tribal leaders to populate a local community center with fruiting trees and to provide education in their care. This year, we will be returning with another orchard in tow in order to continue and expand upon our progress in 2015.
FTPF will be planitng apples, pears, and cherries choosen specifically for the cold winters of the uppermost part of the country, and will also be selecting varities known to be disease and rot resistant, easy to manage, and most importantly, tasty!
We are also working on some other projects across the country, including several new projects in the Southwest, where we hope to make new connections with tribes whom we have not worked with previously. If you or anyone you know has an idea for a project with a native community in the United States, please feel free to reach out to us directly for infomraiton on apply for the Trees for Tribes orchard grant program!
Thank you so much for your continued support! Keep an eye out for updates from the field this month by following us on Facebook or Instagram.
