The students of grades 7 and 8 who were brought to Kathmandu for winter school went back to Tsharka at the beginning of April. The project was super successful and the students had a great time in Kathmandu.
Recruitment of teaching staff for the Academic Year 2023
For the academic year 2023, we have recruited a team of 9 staff:
· 2 secondary school teachers
· 5 basic school teachers
· 1 cook
· 1 nurse
· additionally we expect 2 teachers from the government
The school team started their journey towards Tsharka and arrived at Dunai. Earlier, they planned to go through Jomsom, Mustang. But due to bad weather and snowfall on the passes in between Mustang and Dolpo, the teachers changed their route. They reached Tsharka at the beginning of May and have now started the new school year.
Carpenters finishing school buildings
With the staff team, two carpenters from Solukhumbu also traveled to Tsharka. The carpenters were hired to complete the school building construction projects. By the summer months of this year, we plan to finish all the construction works that are going on in Tsharka School.
School Supplies
All of the required supplies, including educational supplies, rations for the kitchen, and medical supplies for the health station were bought, packaged, and transported up to Mustang. As soon as the passes are accessible, the supplies will be transported to Tsharka by mules and horses.
Upgrading School to grade 10
The headmaster is currently in Dunai, the headquarters of Dolpa, to collect supporting documents to apply for permission from the government to upgrade the school. We hope we will get permission to run grade 9 this year and 10 next year.
Internet facility
According to the chairman of the local municipality, the internet server company called World Link, which was given the contract to install internet facilities in rural areas by the government of Nepal, has agreed to install internet in Chharka-Tangsong Rural Municipality this year. Their targets include Tsharka School and the ward office of Tsharka.
Additional Solar Power computers for the school
Our School Coordinator attended a meeting of Nepalhilfe Beilngries e.V, Germany, the NGO that is supporting construction of a passive solar house with thermal insulation, at its office in Kathmandu. This NGO decided to support Tsharka School with a bigger solar power system for lighting and running electronic appliances.
A company called OLE Nepal is granting ten computers to each of the schools in upper Dolpa including Tsharka School. The computers will be brought and installed by the company in the respective schools in May.
