Halfway through 2003 Schoolyear
Students using computer lab
The 2023 school year is over halfway through. Tsharka (Chharka) School has more students this year than ever before: 67 full-time students from Tsharka, 12 boarding students from nearby villages, and 15 students attending when they can.
As we have added more grades to our original primary school, we have added more teachers. We can now change the name of our GlobalGiving Project to include our middle school students: Tsharka Tibetan Elementary and Middle School, Dolpo, Nepal.
The passive solar classrooms continue to provide a comforatable workspace for the older students who stay on for our extended winter school session that goes from October through December.
Our School Coordinator works closely with the District Education Office, located in Dunai, to ensure that our students complete the same curriculum and pass the same exams as all other students in Nepal.
Thanks to a generous donation, Tsharka School has a functioning computer lab. Students use the computers to study various subjects and write papers. We have a library of materials available for use on our computers. The next step—which we have hoped for for some time now—is for Tsharka to be connected to internet: the world wide web. In our next report, we hope to be able to say that the connection has been completed by the end of 2023.
The effects of global climate change are also felt in Dolpo. This summer, exceptionally heavy rains caused floodng and mudslides in and around Tsharka. Fortunately, our school buildings are well-built. They survived the storms. Tsharka School continues to thrive.
