Another Success Story!

By Barbara Rosascco | Secretary & Treasurer

Ms. LS trying something new
Ms. LS trying something new
Countdown to graduation !

This new  report, about Ms. LS , is  the  the second  report in a series of three reports about outstanding young women in our program following up on our   recent report about our newest college graduate, Ms. S.  These two  young women  are just now  in the process of completing our program and one other young woman , who will be featured in our next and third report,   is about to begin the program.

Ms. LS  is 26 years old and she is in our Kasumisou Scholars Program. She  has been receiving support  from Kasumisou Foundation since she was a toddler and like many of the students in our various programs,  Ms LS has experienced  some periods of remarkable hardship over the  years. Despite this, she has remained focused on her goals of educational and personal excellence.  Her education over the years and her college program have been sponsored by Kasumisou Foundation and a very generous donor located in New York City. What distinguishes Ms. LS is her consistent good cheer, her " can do" attitude and her willingness to work very hard to achieve her goals.  Ms.  LS   has worked full time, 6 days per week,  both before and throughout her college years,  in the office at our Champey Academy of Arts school in what can accurately be described as a constantly evolving  public relations capacity.

Ms. LS  speaks excellent English. She  is  also charming and gregarious. Her primary responsibility at our school is taking care of the hundreds of foreign tourists who visit our school during a typical tourist season.  The tourists come  to observe our students in their classes and many  of them are also eager to learn something about traditional Cambodian arts. Our tourists have a lot of questions and  Ms. LS is able to answer their questions and also put them at ease and engage them in conversation.  Her welcoming  personality is one of the reasons that our tourist engagement for the school  is so successful and why the school is  a popular destination for tour companies..

Later this summer,  Ms. LS  will receive her bachelor’s degree in International Relations. Her hope is  to pursue a second bachelor’s degree in law beginning this autumn. Her special interest is in helping disadvantaged young people in Cambodia attend school. She hopes to develop a career doing exactly that after completing her education.

The tuition cost for Ms.LS’s bachelor’s degree in law will be approximately $500 per year for each year of the two year program. We hope to continue our support for this exceptional young woman by providing financial assistance  for much of her tuition expense for this next step in education.

In my last report, I commented that we often stand by and watch world events and we  bemoan that we, as individuals, cannot change “ the world”. Yet, here is another wonderful example of  an accomplished young woman who through your support over the years, has indeed changed her own world.  Our sincere thanks to you,  our wonderful donors. This opportunity has been  made possible  by each one of you.

We hope that you will join with us on July 10 for the GlobalGiving July Bonus Day when GlobalGiving will offer a donor match of 20%  to 40% on donations of $100 to $1000.

Thank you for your support and partnership!  We could not do this without you.
