Those of us at UBECI want to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support to United to Benefit Ecuadorian Children, International (UBECI). With the help of your donations, we are able to maintain our activities throughout the markets in the southern region of Quito for the children and adolescents who are obliged to assist their families in the markets due to their economic situation. Your continued support plays a key role in the success of UBECI’s “Reduce Work Hours for Ecuador’s Street Children” project. Together, we have been able to provide various activities which provide support for over 600 children in the outdoor markets throughout Quito. These activities include workshops and recreational activities providing the youth with homework assistance, hygiene workshops, and most importantly, a place where they may play and learn in a positive and welcoming environment.
It has been a busy couple months here at UBECI as multiple microprojects have been launched in tandem with the continued work of our “Reduce Work Hours for Ecuador’s Children” project. For example, in July we are launching the “Dental Care and Education for 250 Youth in Quito”. The aim of the dental project is to provide 250 children with dental care kits containing essential tools such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. In addition, UBECI will collaborate with local dentists who will provide dental evaluations and procedures for the children. The aim of this microproject is to educate the children on dental hygiene and instil positive habits of maintaining good dental hygiene. Within the last month, UBECI has also launched a second microproject focusing on the young girls and women working in the markets. With the help of our generous donors through GlobalGiving, the “Provide Emotional Support for GIrls in Quito” project will collaborate with local psychologists in order to evaluate and work to improve the self-esteem of the young girls working in the markets. In addition, this project will work to gradually shift the surrounding community’s focus on the importance of women’s education. Activities such as workshops on healthy self-esteem and emotional and physical care and evaluations from local psychologists the women and young girls (70% of the children working in the markets) will have the opportunity to pursue healthier lifestyles in education and or equal opportunities. The long-term goal for this particular microproject is to shift the focus on women working in the markets towards the importance of providing opportunities for education and equal opportunity.
As part of the mission here at UBECI, staff and volunteers are continuously striving to increase our international support in order to fund the regular campaigns for the Ecuadorian children. The success of these projects is contingent on the funding provided through our generous donors. As such, we will regularly reach out to international organizations and partners in order to promote the work done by UBECI and fundraise in order to continue support for the impoverished children working in the markets of Quito.
We would like to once again extend our gratitude for your support and hope to continue our partnerships with you!
