Healing a child takes more than medicine

By Anastasiia Baraniuk | Specialist of Individual Fundraising

Today, April 9th, is Onco-Psychology Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness about something we see every single day at Tabletochki: cancer doesn't only affect the body. It affects the whole person — their sense of self, their will to keep going, their ability to find meaning in the middle of something overwhelming.

Psychological support isn't a bonus. It's part of the treatment.

We want to share Nazar's story with you — and thank you for making that support possible.

Nazar is the kind of person who makes a room more interesting. A political science student, a lover of philosophy and music — someone who'd pull you into a midnight debate about metaphysics and leave you questioning everything you thought you knew.

Last summer, that all changed. Fatigue, headaches, a persistent fever — then days he couldn't get out of bed. After weeks of tests, the diagnosis arrived: blood cancer.

Chemotherapy was brutal — physically and emotionally draining in ways that are hard to put into words. At his lowest points, Nazar felt he simply couldn't go on. That's where psychological support made all the difference.

"Without that support, I honestly think I'd have broken completely," he says.

Now, the hardest part is behind him. When we spoke with him, he was listening to his favorite music, weighing whether to return to political science or pivot to film directing. One more year of maintenance therapy — and then the road back to ordinary life. Psychological support saved Nazar just as surely as the medicine did.

That's why Tabletochki's psychologists support families at every stage: through treatment, after recovery, and in the moments when cancer wins.

None of this is possible without you. Your generosity funds not just medications, but the care that helps children find their way back to themselves — back to their music, their passions, their future. Thank you for standing with Ukrainian children through the hardest moments of their lives. It matters more than words can say.

Please donate today — and help us be there for every child who needs us.
