Exciting things are happening in Ecuador as a result of your kind donation to Days for Girls’ activities in Latin America!
Our enterprise leader in Ecuador has several incredible projects in the works right now, including one with a provincial government.
On September 28, Andrea Espinoza Torres, a Days for Girls Enterprise Leader in Ecuador, traveled to the Pastaza province and filmed a DfG promotional video with the Pastanza Board of Trustees of Social Services. In the video, Andrea discussed the work she is doing in collaboration with the Vice-Prefect of the province. Pastaza is the cultural home of seven indigenous populations: Achuar, Andoa, Shuar, Kichwa, Shiwiar, Waorani and the Zapara. Indigenous women are often forgotten in Ecuadorian policies and are consequently left with nothing but makeshift solutions to manage their menstruation. These improvised products have led to many having continuous infections, intense cramping and heavier-than-normal blood flow. The Vice-Prefect and Andrea both share has a strong desire to educate the indigenous women. Together, they recently held a distribution to deliver menstrual health education and distribute 300 DfG Smart Starter Washable Pad Kits to the women and girls in one of the provincial villages. Andrea and the Vice-Prefect are excited to work together to combat these issues and give Ecuadorian women more dignified menstrual choices. This partnership is just beginning, and we at Days for Girls are elated at the impact this will have on the lives of women and girls who menstruate.
Thank you for ensuring that women and girls in Latin America are able to experience the dignity of menstrual equality.
