Its been a slow fundraising period this quarter, but that doesn't mean no progress!
The Sinonik water commitee have really shown us they are dedicated towards properly managing their water system and saving money tor repay their loan for the solar equipment.
However, we were surprised to hear that they have still been spending money on diesel for the generator to pump water, despite having an installed solar system! We later learned the reason is that during months of low water demand, it becomes too expensive for them to pay their monthly loan repayment for the solar and they prefer to use diesel instead. This was really saddening for us to hear, as money spent on diesel does not contribute towards their eventual ownership of the solar system and future 'free' pumping.
We have been working with the water committee and government body in charge of managing the borehole, to help them find a better solution to the loan repayment approach, based on their actual energy consumption rather than a fixed fee. This will mean it is always more affordable for them to use solar than diesel, even in the months when they don't pump much water, and hopefully this will lead towards faster system ownership and savings all around!
As always, we welcome donations to help contribute towards the cost of the installed equipment, reducing the loan amount Sinonik have left to pay, and helping them build a fund for future system improvements and repairs.
