The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia marked on 17th May is very important to celeberate and promote the rights of the LGBQ community
LGBTI individuals and LGBTQ organizations in Rwanda continue to face discrimination, inadequate protection, and lack of respect for their fundamental rights.
The LGBTQ commmunity in Rwanda started to celebrate the IDAHOT day since 2012 though its not officially recognized by the Government of Rwanda. IDAHOT celebration in Rwanda has awakened and helped Rwanda LGBTQ community to achieve different milestones including the creation of ISANGE-RWANDA which is an informal umbrella of LGBTIQ community based groups in Rwanda, extending partnership erent partners
It is in this regards that Human Rights First Rwanda and its partners have been organizing this event annually to show case the plight of the LGBTQ community, promote their wellbeing, promote LGBTQ Human rights and encourage the solidarity of the LGBTIQ community in Rwanda. We believe through such celebration where Rwandan LGBTQ community stands side by side and join the rest of the World, will foster greater activism and solidarity for LGBTQ community acceptance in Rwanda.
