We are appreciative for your support of this project. I’m writing to share some updates about ActionAid’s earthquake response in Turkey and Syria.
The earthquakes have pushed millions who were already reeling from 12 years of conflict into cramped camps and temporary shelters, with little privacy, protection, sanitation, medical aid, or emotional support. In North-West Syria families rebuilding their lives after the devastating earthquake are dealing with grief, loss, and now rocketing prices of essential items.
With your support, ActionAid has raised over 5.3 million dollars to support our emergency response. With these funds, Action Aid's partners have and are continuing to deliver shelter, food, water, and cash assistance, supporting the medical response, and providing emotional and psychological support to women, children, and young people. Local women are leading an emergency community kitchen and hub that serves six community shelters (3,530 people) and offers a safe space for people to gather. Women-led organisations are responding to local needs by equipping shelters, distributing food items and dignity kits, and establishing safe spaces to service more than 6000 women and girls in Syria.
People in Syria are exhausted after years of tragedy and need long-term solutions that ensure their protection, help their physical and mental health, and secure their livelihoods. Efforts to build back must also future proof communities from further disasters of this scale, through early warning systems and disaster preparedness. ActionAid will continue working with local partners, led by women and young people, to shift power to communities, supporting their capacity, participation, and voice as key actors in Northwest Syria. We will be working with local partners to understand how best to support communities who are constantly adapting to multiple shocks and developing resilience to them.
Your commitment to human rights makes a difference. It has never been more crucial. Thank you again for your solidarity and support.
