Ramadan Relief Campaign
Dear Donor,
the first quarter of 2022 is over and we would like to share with you some updates on our work!
AFGHANISTAN
The situation in Afghanistan continues to worsen. The country is experiencing the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. 95% of the population is endangered by food insecurity or malnutrition to an unprecedented degree (UN OCHA). That is because of the economic collapse, the deterioration of the finance and health sector, extreme droughts and international sanctions after the Taliban took power.
- Emergency Aid:
That is why our annual Ramadan emergency aid was so important again this year. Just in time for the start of this year's fasting month, the campaign began on the 2. of April in 2022. With the help of our community we were able to support 300 families in need by providing them with food parcels that last for 2-3 months.
- Projects:
After the long winter break, the construction work on the Khoja Mohammad Parsa Primary School finally continued. In addition, the conception of different workshops is now on the agenda. While WASH workshops are designed to train the school community on water, sanitation and hygiene, ownership workshops are designed to familiarise and connect students and parents with the new infrastructure of the school. We are also in the process of preparing for a professional, external evaluation of the project.
The resumption of the school building project at Block Haye Hawayee School is in full swing. 12 classrooms and 8 toilets and washing facilities with sustainable water supply are being built for the pupils in grades 1-9. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) application has been submitted and we hope to start the project in the middle of the year!
UGANDA
- Projects:
The follow-up project at Barmwony Primary School is progressing rapidly: the construction of the two latrine blocks with integrated washroom for girls is in full swing and great progress can also be seen in the renovation work of the seven classrooms.
The new inter-school sanitation project in northern Uganda is about to start. It is the first project in Uganda planned in cooperation with the BMZ. The application is already in the final stages. The sanitation project will be implemented at seven primary schools in northern Uganda. The objectives are: the construction of urgently needed sanitation facilities and the implementation of workshops for the general improvement of the school including WASH and maintenance components as well as menstrual hygiene and puberty workshops for the pupils, teachers and parents.
GERMANY
- Projects:
As part of our Domestic project - Learning Development Cooperation, we have worked with experts and educators to develop teaching materials on the causes and consequences of international crises and conflicts, using Afghanistan as an example. With this project for and with Hamburg schools, we want to sensitise pupils to the causes and consequences of international crises and conflicts at an early stage and introduce them to the topic of sustainable development cooperation.
Have we piqued your interest? Then get our work into your classroom now! The materials are designed for grades 9 and 10 and thus convey the challenging content in an age-appropriate way. In total, the lesson plan includes about 6-8 interactive and multimedia lessons. You can find out more and download the materials directly from our website. We can also send you printed copies of the brochures. Please send us an email: info@visions4children.org
Despite the good news, we are undoubtedly facing another challenging couple of months. We are particularly concerned about the uncertain situation in Afghanistan: The takeover of the Taliban, the collapse of the economy and the ongoing drought have led to a catastrophic supply situation.
For that reason, we continue to rely on your support. Additionally, we'd be very happy if you shared our work with your colleagues or family and friends.
If you want to stay informed about our project countries and our work, feel free to follow us on Instagram. We'll of course keep you posted here on GlobalGiving as well.
Thank you so much and all the best. :)
