This Eurasian griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) was found by our field volunteers in a dehydrated and starved state. The reason for this condition was unknown but the bird was weak enough to be grounded, unable to fly.
Initial examination by palpating joints and bones suggested that there was perhaps a joint dislocation. To make sure there weren't any broken bones, we did a radiography at our centre but fortunately there were no fractures. The bird was then treated symptomatically.
Eventually the bird started showing improvement in its health and after about 3 weeks, it was shifted to a large flight cage for flight assessment and pre-release conditioning.
After its full recovery, the vulture was released back in nature. The bird was ringed (leg band with a unique id) for post release monitoring.
