Project Report: War Trauma: Recovery & Anti-Sexual Abuse Training - #64321
Introduction:
Over the past several months, Not Guilty has been working with Sudanese refugees in Egypt, providing a platform for healing and resilience through the "Seeing Through Trauma" workshop. This initiative aimed to explore the profound impact of war—not just the immediate violence, but the enduring echoes of loss that span generations.
Context: The Refugee Crisis in Egypt
Egypt has become a primary refuge for those fleeing the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Since April 2023, over 1.2 million Sudanese have sought safety in Egypt, with more than 600,000 registered with the UNHCR . The majority of these refugees are women and children, many of whom have experienced significant trauma. Despite Egypt's proximity and historical ties to Sudan, refugees often face challenges such as limited legal protection, restricted access to employment, and social discrimination. Not Guilty workshops provide a safe space for Sudanese refugees to share their stories of loss and resilience. Through storytelling, group discussions, and therapeutic activities, participants explore the multifaceted impacts of displacement and conflict on their lives.

Challenges Faced by Participants:
While the workshop provided a space for healing, participants continue to face significant challenges:
These challenges underscore the urgent need for comprehensive support for both the adults and children in these communities to ensure that the next generation is not defined by the trauma of war, but is given the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.
Thank you for standing with us in this life-changing endeavor to continue to support these refugees with training, community, and counseling.
