WASH programme to mitigate COVID 19

By Mariana Siblesz de Alvarez | Chairhairperson

A year has passed since the start of the COVID 19 pandemic, and although in many places it seems like we are getting a grip on this terrible disease, sadly right now in Venezuela it is at its worst.

In a country where there is an established complex humanitarian crisis, a collapsed economy and no effective policies in place to stop the transmission, there is little hope of controlling the pandemic. Cases have spiked during the last weeks, both public and private hospitals are at maximum capacity, with little resources to battle this calamity, mortality from COVID-19 is at its highest taking a big toll on many and specially on doctors, nurses and medical personnel.

In order to get a grip on infection rates, stricter quarantine measures have been imposed, which will help reduce transmission of the virus, but will have a negative impact in many of the much-needed programmes that provide live saving help to the children in Venezuela.

Our commitment to facilitate and improve the operations of our partners is now more important than ever and that is why over the last few months with your contribution we have expanded our WASH programme with the purchase of 17 community water filters, 2 mission water filters which will be installed in rural underprivileged communities with little access to potable water across the country, where our local partners run a range of programmes to help improve the lives of the children of Venezuela.

We have also bought and distributed 4 water tanks of different capacities, which allow the different programmes ran by our local partners to store water properly, which will help them not only to continue their operations, but to do so more safely and efficiently broadening their capacity to help more children.

With your help our WASH infrastructure programme facilitates the continuation of soup kitchens, nutritional recovery programmes and medical programmes run by our partners, it improves the Health and Wellbeing of the children, Reduces Covid 19 transmission, improving  poverty and inequality.

Thank you for your continuous support,

The CHAMOS Team
