Dear donor,
We hope you are doing well and that you have started the new year in good health. Thank you so much for your support and commitment so far - we really do appreciate it!
After the first WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) program started in Otuke District in 2022, August 2023 marks the start of the project in the Alebtong region. At seven schools in rural northern Uganda, the project aims to improve hygiene standards, promote menstrual hygiene, educate about mental health issues and develop sustainable school structures with the help of various workshops. As the project in Alebtong is still in its beginnings, we want to use this report to give you an update on our WASH program in Otuke District.
In July, the first phase of the two-year WASH program in the Otuke district of Uganda was officially completed and celebrated!
WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) measures were implemented at 4 elementary school: Wells, hand-washing facilities and new latrines including washrooms for girls were built. This was accompanied by workshops on WASH and menstrual hygiene for pupils and training courses for school staff, parents and teachers to promote sustainable school structures. In addition, ovens were built at the schools and school meals were introduced to promote concentrated learning, increase the attendance rate of pupils and relieve the burden on families.
The completion of this project phase was celebrated together with representatives of the district and sub-districts, school management, teachers, pupils and parents at a ceremony to hand over the schools to the district.
The 2nd phase of the program continues with the same measures at 3 more schools in the Otuke district. We are delighted that we will soon be able to reach 7 schools in this rural, conflict-ridden and poverty-stricken area in northern Uganda.
Here you can find current pictures of our WASH program.
As there is still a lot to do for both the project in Outke and in Alebtong, we are still dependent on your support! So please tell those around you about our work and the situation for children and young people in many poorer regions of Uganda. Together we can make a big difference!
Thanks again and all the best from the bottom of our hearts!
