Improve sanitary conditions at 7 schools in Uganda

it's time again for an update from our Wash Program in Alebtong in Uganda!

Read here what has been going on over the last few weeks:

Various workshops on menstrual health and hygiene have been held at the schools involved in our WASH project (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene). Both the pupils and the school management committees as well as the parent and teacher councils took part:

• In terms of content, the myths and taboos surrounding the topic of menstruation were discussed, debated and refuted.
• In addition to imparting theoretical knowledge, the participants also made their own reusable sanitary pads in various sizes, which were distributed to the pupils at the end of the workshop.

Another taboo is the topic of mental health. Mental illness is often associated with witchcraft. The following content objectives were achieved:

• In the workshops, students* received knowledge about mental health with a focus on the causes, effects and coping mechanisms. The training for parents and teachers also focused on care, case recognition and management.
• Strategies for promoting the mental health of schoolchildren were also highlighted, with a particular focus on sporting activities.
