Water - the gift of life - for children in Darfur

Turra Village was originally adopted and supported by Kids for Kids back in 2004. Soon after we brought our projects into the village, trained midwives, paravets, first aid workers, set beneficiaries up with goats and donkeys, and everything was starting to change for the community, conflict in Darfur erupted and we were unable to travel to Turra.  Many people left the area.

We were very proud that members of the Animal Loan Committee amazingly continued to help their remaining community and a midwife also returned to the village. "We were able to install a handpump and negotiate safe conduct for the drilling team!"  said Patricia Parker MBE, Kids for Kids Founder and CEO.  The pump still stands today.  But at that time, we could not continue our work.  Tough years followed for Turra, and many children died including last year from malnutrition and malaria.

With greater security we are now delighted to announce that this year we have readopted Turra Village as one of our Eight New Villages in 2019. We are determined to bring families in Turra village out of the harsh poverty they are in.

Water is the urgent need now in the other seven villages we adopted this year, and we need to ask again for jerry cans as in our previous project report.
