Soap Means Hope for Mothers in Darfur

By Sage Lancaster | Fundraising and Outreach Coordinator

Soap and Food for a Family
Soap and Food for a Family

Upon news of the cholera outbreak in Sudan last year, Kids for Kids started to provide bars of Soap to every family receiving our Kids Kitchen Kits. These kits include lentils, pulses, groundnuts and cooking oil - essential food items to ensure children aged five and under do not starve during the ongoing conflict. And now each family will have soap too. The first mothers to receive her five bars, cried.

Cases of both cholera and diphtheria have been on the rise in Sudan due to contaminated water and unsanitary conditions. The ongoing conflict has decimated the healthcare system. Medicine is virtually unavailable, not to mention vaccines to prevent children from contracting these bacteria from the dirty water.

It costs £20 to provide ten families with five bars of soap each.

Soap for our villages means the prevention of dangerous bacteria. And it means that Mothers will be able to bathe and clean their little ones. "Providing soap is not just for practical purposes," said Kids for Kids Founder, Patricia Parker OBE. "The hope it gives mothers, and the feeling that they are being empowered to look after their families more makes a massive difference."

Thanks to your help, Kids Kitchen Kits full of food have reached 100,848 children aged five and under. Together we have reached 60 of the 110 Kids for Kids villages, providing seeds, medicine, mosquito nets and now soap. Every time you make a donation you are bringing both aid and hope to families that no one else is helping. You are showing families that they have not been forgotten.

Please will you share this report with one friend? Encourage them to donate soap - hope - today for children in living through the world's worst humanitarian crisis. Thank you.
