We Reached Our Fundraising Goal and Made an Important Strategic Decision
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our GlobalGiving donors and supporters around the world, AGILE-International successfully reached our $12,000 fundraising goal to build two water towers and a greenhouse for women farmers in Kokelen, Mali.
This is a major milestone, and we couldn't have done it without you.
As we prepared to begin construction, we realized that building the greenhouse alone would not create the long-term impact we envisioned. Without proper post-harvest infrastructure, much of the produce grown through the greenhouse could be lost after harvest.
To ensure that the community receives the full benefit of this investment, we made the decision to expand the project by including a Farm Pack House alongside the greenhouse.
A greenhouse increases production, but a Farm Pack House protects that production. It provides a dedicated space to wash, sort, grade, package, and temporarily store fresh produce before it reaches the market. Without this critical step, harvested crops can spoil or lose value, reducing both food security and farmers' income.
Instead of building only one part of the agricultural system, we chose to build the foundation for a complete regenerative food system.
While We Prepare, the Project Keeps Moving Forward
Rather than allowing project funds to remain unused while preparing the expanded infrastructure plan, AGILE-International launched a regenerative agriculture initiative that immediately began creating value for the community.
Together with local farmers, we invested in livestock that regenerate both the land and the local economy.
The community purchased sheep and goats, cared for them, improved their health, and sold them during the Eid celebration. The proceeds were reinvested into larger agricultural assets, including:
Today, these cattle are helping prepare farmland, improving soil fertility through natural manure, supporting regenerative farming practices, and reducing dependence on expensive external inputs.
This approach allows the project to continue generating value while we prepare for the next phase of construction.
