Dear friend of Motivation Romania,
Can you believe it, how time flies? It seems like only yesterday the first flowers of spring were blooming, and today we are ready for the full heat of summer days. Children are eager to start their summer break and we look forward to - hopefully - more easy flowing days at work, or even to the upcoming summer vacation when we will catch our breath, relax and recharge.
`It was a day just like today. It was hot, so we went for a swim with my friends, at a bathing spot we had been to before. It was just bad luck that my jump would go…well, so wrong. It resulted in an accident and brought with it this wheelchair…`
Think of a summer day. It`s a weekend and it`s hot. Your friends invite you to cool down outdoors, near the water. You`ve been there several times, and had loads of fun. Now, you look at the water and feel the urge to jump in immediately and cool down. It`s so hot!
Your friends are already making spectacular jumps, and call you from the water. You don`t think twice and jump in as well.
`Nothing can happen to me` - these were the words of many people, right before the moment that would completely turn their lives upside down.
This was also what happend to Horatiu. One summer day, when Horatiu was eighteen, he went for a swim with his friends. Little did he know that, by the end of the day, his life would not be the same. Nor that he would learn to use a wheelchair that would become an essential part of his daily life.
Horatiu just wanted to have fun and cool down. He jumped in. Since then, he went through all phases that follow such an accident: shock, denial and - the most difficult part - self-acceptance.
Two years later, Horatiu told us more about his process of `rebirth`:
`Suddenly, you stumble upon this huge mental obstacle – seeing that you`ve become helpless. Then, little by little, you start to rediscover yourself, to do the things you used to do before. Maybe not at the same level, but close to what it used to be.`
Each year, we get to know over 1,000 wheelchair users throughout the country, when they ask for our help. The first thing we do is donate an appropriate mobility equipment. Many of them also need our support and training as they take on the journey towards more personal independence.
Motivation is there to support each wheelchair user on this road, one at a time. But we need YOUR recurring donation to continue to give back hope and a life of fulfillment to those who ask for our help.
Make a monthly recurring donation to give back freedom of movement to children and adults with mobility disabilities like Horatiu!
YOU help change lives for the better. Thank you!
