Project Progress Report

Project Overview

The Wheels for Education Access in Zambia project aims to raise funds to purchase a reliable motor vehicle that will support the implementation of Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) programs. The vehicle will play a critical role in improving access to education for vulnerable children and youths, including girls supported through the scholarship program and learners with disabilities living in remote and hard-to-reach areas of Zambia.

Due to long distances, poor road networks, and dispersed communities, lack of reliable transport has remained one of the biggest operational challenges for CCCYD. This project directly responds to that challenge by mobilizing resources for a dedicated program vehicle.

Progress to Date

The project is currently in the fundraising phase on the GlobalGiving platform. To date, USD 101 has been raised, marking the first step toward achieving the overall fundraising goal. Although the amount raised so far is modest, it demonstrates early donor confidence and provides a foundation for scaling up fundraising efforts.

Importance of the Motor Vehicle

Once procured, the motor vehicle will support multiple CCCYD interventions, including:

• Monitoring and supporting scholarship beneficiaries in colleges and universities, many of whom are located over 300–500 km from Solwezi

• Conducting field visits to schools, training centers, and communities

• Supporting disability inclusion and education access initiatives

• Strengthening community engagement, mentorship, and safeguarding activities

Reliable transport will significantly improve program effectiveness, accountability, and beneficiary follow-up, ensuring that no child or student is left unsupported due to distance.

Current Challenges

The major challenge remains insufficient funding to acquire the motor vehicle. CCCYD currently relies on an old vehicle with frequent mechanical breakdowns, which limits outreach to remote districts and increases operational costs.

Ongoing Efforts

CCCYD continues to:

• Mobilize support through GlobalGiving and other fundraising channels

• Engage partners, friends, and well-wishers to contribute to the campaign

• Share project updates and impact stories to increase visibility

• Maintain program activities despite transport limitations

Way Forward

With adequate funding, CCCYD will proceed to:

• Purchase a suitable and reliable motor vehicle

• Brand the vehicle for visibility and donor recognition

• Improve regular monitoring of e-scholarship students and other beneficiaries

• Expand outreach to remote communities and hard-to-reach districts
