Wheels for Education Access in Zambia

Overview

The Wheels for Education Access in Zambia project was initiated to address a critical logistical challenge faced by the Charity Centre for Children and Youth Development (CCCYD) limited mobility to reach vulnerable children, students, and communities in remote and hard-to-reach areas of North-Western Province.

Access to reliable transportation is essential for monitoring scholarship beneficiaries, supporting school-going children, delivering educational materials, and implementing outreach programs effectively. The project seeks to raise funds to purchase a dedicated vehicle that will significantly improve service delivery and impact.

Fundraising Progress

To date, the project has raised a total of $101 through the GlobalGiving platform.

While we are grateful for the support received so far, this amount represents only a small fraction of the total funds required to procure a suitable vehicle. The cost of a reliable 4x4 vehicle necessary due to the terrain and long distances involved remains beyond our current funding level.

Challenges

The main challenge faced by this project is limited funding progress. Despite the clear need and potential impact of the project, fundraising has been slow. This has delayed the acquisition of a vehicle and continues to affect our ability to:

• Conduct regular monitoring visits to students in remote areas
• Respond quickly to emergencies affecting beneficiaries
• Expand outreach programs to underserved communities
• Ensure consistent supervision and support for ongoing projects 

Impact of Limited Mobility

Without a dedicated vehicle, CCCYD continues to rely on costly and unreliable transport options. This has resulted in:

• Reduced frequency of field visits
• Increased operational costs
• Delayed response to beneficiary needs
• Limited reach, especially in rural and hard-to-access areas

Despite these challenges, our team remains committed and continues to use available resources to support beneficiaries as much as possible.

We remain hopeful and committed to achieving the goal of this project. Efforts are ongoing to:

• Engage more donors and well-wishers through GlobalGiving and other platforms
• Strengthen partnerships with organizations and individuals who believe in our mission
• Increase visibility of the project through social media and community engagement
