Hello friends,
How time flies! It is 2021 already and we are so happy to continue sharing with you remarkable updates of Where Dreams Bloom program in 2020.
We all know that the past year is a challenging and unique year and there is no exception for our program. With the unstable circumstance causing by the appearance and spread of COVID-19 over the country, we have witnessed a far-reaching impacts on all aspects of the families in our program, who are in already vulnerable situations.
The fall in economic activity in the country has led to serious consequences affecting greatly on the income of the poor. Job loss and salary cutting are among the noticeable problems that most of the families in our program encountered during the stage. The lack of income leads the families to having unstable decisions such as borrowing money from the informal credit market with very high interest to fund the consumption and meet the needs, while 100% of the families agree that they have experienced a material hardship in the past year.
Moreover, spending more time at home during the period of social distance also increases the risk of sexual abuse of the girls. Our annual survey found about one-sixth of parents are worry about the safety of their children because of the risks of their living space.
At some points of this difficult year, it also gives us time to reflect, learn and grow. We have ensured 100% of the girls in the program continue going to school without fears of tuition fees. We organized diversity activities throughout the school year following the guides of the government to guarantee the safety of not only our participants but also the whole community. This is a really tough but successful year of the program.
In the pass year, we continues accessing to more three families this year. That means three more girls will be received the support including tuition fees, health insurance, uniforms, stationary and weekly follow-ups from our staff until they complete high school.
In last December, we cooperated with Viet Children’s Picture (an NGO empowering youths through arts education) to organize the Christmas workshop teaching the girls to make lovely handmade cards for Christmas. We do believe the activity like this will become a part of their wonderful childhood memories and contribute to nurture their creative spirit in the future. Our holiday season was even so much merrier this year when a friend of us sent 23 lovely books to our girls as Christmas presents. We could not be happier to see more and more people from many walks of life joining and giving their time and efforts to our program.
Thank you so much for joining and following us in the past years. We can’t wait to start 2021 journey and prepare for many plans but we can’t achieve our goals without your support! Please continue joining us as our supporters. We are thrilled to have you in the team! A better year is coming, we wish you a wonderful new year filled with abundance, joy, and treasured moments.
Happy new year!
Best regards,
AAT Vietnam Team
