18th Report for Myanmar Youth Training Centre

By Jim Connor | Project Leader

Greetings Friends and Family,

We trust this finds you all doing well and staying healthy and happy wherever you are in the world. It has been a long rainy season for us here at Whispering Earth and our training centre in the village. The rains have been heavy and as we approach the ending of the monsoon season around end October-Early November, it still feels like there is no release from the heavy rains.

The current political and economic situations here in Myanmar continue to worsen day by day. With basic infrastructure; electricity, telecommunications, water and basic maintenance of roads, life continues to grow more and more challenging for everyone.  You can see and feel it all around.

The roads on the way to the farm have seriously deteriorated once again, making rainy season travel in and out quite challenging. We have been planting our annual batch of trees early this rainy season and have planted several hundred trees on the farm again this year. We are very excited as the farm continues to grow despite the surrounding challenging situation.

Because of the weather and road conditions, we put our youth empowerment trainings on hold and will begin them again starting in the new year once the good weather is here.

We are excited to make further progress with buildings and a new toilet this coming dry season.

Unfortunately, the conflicts here seem far from over and we hope for the days when we can see some end in sight, but we have not reached there yet. In the meantime, we continue our work as best we can supporting teachers and youth for a better and brighter future!

We look forward to sharing our next news with you once the weather has dried up and we can continue more work at the farm.

Thank you for all of your support especially during these extremely challenging times!

Yours,

Whispering Earth Team
