I am a fourteen year old schoolboy from London and have been recently lucky enough to witness the incredible work The Ideas Partnership has managed to perform in the Fushë Kosova municipality. One of the great projects that TIP upholds is its widow fund and support program, fortunately I was able to meet two recipients of the project
Istrishahe is a widow whose husband sadly died four years ago, she lives with her two sons. The family’s situation is dire due to both sons being too young to work as well as the household having to live on €140 from social assistance, therefore the support from The Ideas Partnership is crucial to the Istrishahe’s life and that of her family. The widow reported that the most needed supplies were food and hygienic packages; however, there is a lack of clothes and shoes, especially for teenage children.
I also had the pleasure of meeting Nagije, another widow whose husband died seven years ago. Unfortunately her daughters have some mental issues, which they cannot get help for due to the incredibly poor financial situation they find themselves in. Moreover, Nagije’s family only receives €110 from the Kosovan government, exacerbating their already dire situation. Although the support from TIP is very important to these families, the organisation inFushë Kosova can only help four widows a month, due to lack of funding. This means that families like Nagije’s may only receive support from The Ideas Partnership one to two months a year.
The both unfairness and harshness of Istrishahe’s living situation hit me like a ton of bricks, when the Roma community does not have sewers and many families are living off as little as €110 a month, yet skyscrapers are being constructed in the nearby Pristina is a shocking comparison. However, The Ideas Partnership can help to improve their lives as well as the rest of the Roma community in Fushë Kosova in the incredible work it is doing
