SACT Q1 2026 Report - Creating the Conservationists of Tomorrow
Conservation is SACT’s long-term commitment, and meaningful change begins with education. Vusa the Guardian is a flagship educational program, designed to inspire children aged 6–12 living on the borders of protected wildlife areas; some of Africa’s most vulnerable ecosystems. SACT’s efforts to educate and engage communities in wildlife conservation continues to be successful with children through the use of comics. These comics have common theme of having information given by Vusa the Guardian.
Through these vibrant graphic comic books and relatable storytelling, complex issues such as poaching, habitat loss and climate change are transformed into engaging, culturally relevant narratives. These stories empower children to see themselves as ‘Eco-Warriors’ capable of making a difference in their own communities. This approach recognizes that knowledge alone is not enough. Fostering a sense of ownership and emotional connection to the natural world is equally vital in driving behavioral change.
The scale of impact is significant. In 2025 alone, SACT distributed 140,000 comic books and educational posters, with an ambition to reach 200,000 children in 2026. To ensure accessibility and inclusivity, materials are produced in multiple local languages and distributed free of charge through trusted conservation partners, including the Endangered Wildlife Trust and Elephants for Africa.

New Art Initiative: Starting in 2026, SACT will continue to promote conservation education to children from an additional perspective. Several artists associated with SACT will begin giving art lessons to children with a wildlife / ecosystem theme. We are calling this project, Wild at HeART.
The Wild at HeART project proves that art can be a powerful catalyst for environmental change, demonstrating the transformative power of creativity in driving environmental awareness and action. This initiative connects rural African classrooms with the global art world, turning artistic expression into a force for conservation.
Through the program, children are encouraged to create artworks inspired by the wildlife and landscapes that surround them. These pieces capture not only the beauty of their natural heritage but also the challenges it faces. Selected pieces are then curated into international exhibitions and are auctioned alongside established artists. This approach creates a direct link between local experience and global awareness, generating vital funding to support SACT’s conservation projects.
At its core, Wild at HeART is about empowerment; giving young people a voice, building confidence and demonstrating that their perspectives and talents have real value. The first classes are scheduled to take place in April and expand later this year and into 2027.
