Dear Friends,

Thank you all for your support! With Covid-19 and lockdown, we continue to work tirelessly to maintain and protect the biodiversity of our Sanctuary, and most importantly we continue to provide the very best care for every animal that calls our Sanctuary home!

Your support of our medical fund has been greatly appreciated. It has helped with the following:

To treat “Short Tail” the wildebeest who’s injured foot became badly infected. Should he not have been treated, we would have had to euthanize him to prevent him from suffering an agonizing death. After his treatment, his wound is healing slowly, but each day we see an improvement.

A tragic event happened recently when we had a dreadful insurgence with poachers that set up many snares in the bush. We were able to cut the wire noose from both a mother wildebeest and her calf, but sadly we eventually had to bring in help to euthanize the mother as she had succumbed to stress that caused paralysis. The little female calf survived but she called incessantly for her mother for days. She is now doing well again and grazing with the zebra and the territorial wildebeest bull that is her father. We are taking urgent steps to upgrade our security and need all the support possible for this.

Recently we have experienced a very dry time and we have been supplementing our animal’s grazing with wildlife pellets. Although we feel that they are being "spoilt" (apart from injured Short Tail who needs to uphold his best immunity) we feel this is ok as we like to know that all our wildlife are settled and doing well during the sudden cold spell that we are now experiencing in our area.

Dear friends,

We would like to thank you all for your most valuable support.

A few days ago our wildebeest “short -Tail” was found to be limping. His front foot was badly swollen. With your support, we have been able to treat and medicate him to prevent dreadful suffering. Short-Tail cares for a young bull that he has “taken under his wing” Franky and Short Tail are always together and their favorite place to lie is outside our workshop under the shade. Without out your help, we would not have been able to afford the treatment and the suffering he would have had to endure is unthinkable. Thank you for helping him to receive medical help.

After his treatment, we would Ideally have placed Short Tail in a Boma. However, we still must build the long-awaited stables and secure medical Boma. Please do consider ongoing support by becoming a repeat sponsor. Even 10 USD a month helps tremendously. Please do tell your contacts about the support our wildlife needs.

We would also like to report about the 2 zebra that we await. With the extreme heat, we have been advised to hold till the weather cools before we transfer them to Suni-Ridge. Furthermore this season a little darling wildebeest was born. We nursed her mother during her pregnancy with extra food (going out to her a 10 pm each night when she seemed to be alone and able to get all the wildlife pellets and extra hay without other wildlife, the zebra and the wildebeest herd interfering) Her baby was born in December and we have named the little girl “Flower Patch” This little wildebeest, loves the zebra and often grazes with them during the day. In the evening they “return” her to her mother and the territorial bull where and she stays with her herd during the night time! It's a fascinating relationship! As our zebra, Stripy and Tammy do not have their own young, they seem to have adopted her and watch over her for her mother. It has been best to wait not only for the cooler weather but for Flower Patch to mature so that she would not be at any risk with the new zebra.
