Hyena with an embedded snare around her neck!
In our recent report, we posted a photo of a hyena that had been photographed on our night cam camera. To our dismay, on closer inspection of the photo, we realized that the hyena has a snare around her neck.
We have subsequently been trying to attract her to the place where we captured her photo on a night cam. She had been feeding on the carcass of a nyala antelope that had been killed in a territorial fight.
We have also alerted wildlife guards of other nearby reserves as we simply have to find her! Once we establish her whereabouts, possibly in a den with her clan, we will organize to have her darted with an anesthetic so that the snare can be removed! Once this has been done she will be given an antidote and released again.
We would greatly appreciate any support that may help us to employ trackers and a veterinarian to dart her and remove the snare as she must be suffering agonizing pain with the wire tightly embedded in her neck.
Thank you for caring!
Janet Cuthbertson.
