Dear donors,
We have still only received $30.00 donations towards our project to purchase wildlife research collars. We did not receive enough funds to purchase any research collars to add to this project.
Our aim is to add additional collars to a research project run by our partners, the Endangered Wildlife Trust.
The reason for collaring lions, hyenas and possibly other species is due to them inhabiting an area where they are at a very high risk to being killed by poachers. We recently lost six spotted hyena and three african wild dogs in snares in this area and we had to remove snares from four lions in the same area, while we could not locate another lion which is believed to have died.
After our innitial success in collaring a young male lion we managed to collar a lioness and a spotted heyna.
We are hoping to get quite a few collars on lions and spotted hyena as it will greatly improve the collection of data on threats and ways to try and prevent the high number of losses experienced due to poaching.
We are looking forward to making this project a success.
