Wildlife research collars

Dear donors,

We have raised a total of $9292.09 of our $16,000.00 goal through grants, GlobalGiving donations and private donations. We have purchased two research collars and will be ordering another collar when the first collar starts showing signs of its battery going down.


In December 2024 we collared our first adult female Spotted Hyena.

In August 2025 we collared our second adult female Spotted Hyena.

Data gathered from the two spotted hyenas since we started:

1. The hyenas cover an average of 240km per month, walking +/- 8km per night. They traverse over seven properties and have a territory of roughly 6000 hectares. Their
   core home range covers an area of about 1200 hectares. Both females are currently denning and will have cubs soon.
2. Through following up on her collar data we have discovered multiple carcasses of wild animals killed in snares and natural causes including that of two elephant bulls, a giraffe and multiple impala. 
3. We have discovered and dismantled an active poacher's snare line after the poachers were caught and we looked a the hyena activity in the area.
4. We've removed over 400 snares in total, by following the hyena's movements.

We will be purchasing a third collar to replace the first one when it start to show signs of having low battery levels.
