Expansion of Women's Empowerment Projects in Ghana

By Matt Craig | Program Manager

Dear Supporters,

During 2018, the GVI Trust supported a local NGO called Action for Compassion, supporting six women and a tailor to develop professional tailoring skills. Now, as GVI expands its activities in Ghana in 2019, we are in discussions with a range of local women’s groups to implement new programs in women’s empowerment and female reproductive health services in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.

After the success of our launch in Ghana in 2018, GVI is now establishing a new and full-time base in Kokrobite, Greater Accra. Having hired a new Program Manager with a decade of experience designing and managing Ghanaian development projects, and with a well-equipped compound, office and guest house complex having the finishing touches completed as we speak, GVI is poised and ready for the expansion of our project activities in women’s empowerment in Ghana.

As part of the GVI Trust efforts in Ghana, we hope to work with well-established organisations-such as the Ghanaian Girl Guides Association- with a continued focus on SDG 5 – Gender Equality. We are working to design programs that provide school children and young women with female reproductive health support services, including gaining access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene, reproductive education, and family planning advice. In addition, GVI hopes to continue to establish broader professional and vocational skills training that empowers women to achieve economic and professional independence.

Over the coming months the GVI team in Ghana will be meeting with new prospective partners, establishing the areas of greatest local need, and subsequently setting the aims and objectives of this new and exciting work.

So, for now, GVI Trust in Ghana wants to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has-and we hope will continue to-make our work in Ghana possible!

With Gratittude,

Ghana
