The project aims to empower 200 women and 100 girls by providing training in automotive mechanics, a field that men have traditionally dominated. Through hands-on instruction, participants will gain essential skills in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance. The project is designed to promote gender equity, improve economic opportunities, and open pathways to entrepreneurship for women and girls working in the automotive industry. (This is a new project idea )
In Grenada, women and girls continue to face structural and cultural barriers that limit their economic independence. Although women are increasingly achieving higher levels of education, they remain concentrated in low-wage jobs with limited upward mobility. Meanwhile, technical fields such as automotive mechanics where earning potential is higher and entrepreneurship opportunities are strong remain overwhelmingly male-dominated.
The project provides women and girls with hands-on automotive training, mentorship, and safe access to a male-dominated trade. Participants gain employable skills, confidence, and pathways to work or entrepreneurship. The program will break barriers, increases income opportunities, and promotes gender equity.
Women gain financial independence, access to better jobs, and the confidence to fix their own vehicular problems and enter into technical fields. Families benefit from increased stability, while girls see new role models. Over time, the project reduces inequality, challenges gender norms, and strengthens community resilience and economic growth.
