Empower 300 girls to become leaders in Nepal

A month after the leadership course, our LEADers have been busy conducting the school leadership program and starting their internships. As per our course module, the LEADers have to engage themselves in the school leadership program (SLP) where they teach younger students in schools in their communities what that they have learned in the leadership course. The school leadership program runs over a course of four months where they conduct sixteen sessions covering topics such as goal setting, team work, healthy relationships, human rights and Women rights issues, bullying etc.

This year, we have 16 LEADers who are conducting the SLP session. Our SLP LEADers have already been conducting the program for grade nine students at eight different schools. The class has an average of about 30 students.

Meanwhile, the LEADers who chose the internship track selected the organizations that they are interested in. The LEADers are taught guidelines to excel at their internships and also the basic etiquette that they will have to follow as an intern in any organization. Through the internship program we aim to provide them with the necessary professional skills. to strengthen their career even further. We have 14 LEADers who have selected the internship track this year.

We also recently launched our mentorship program where we have paired mentors and their mentees according to their personality compatibility. The orientation program was focused on providing the mentors with information about how they would be helping their mentees and what role they had in helping their mentees realize their full potential through Women LEAD’s platform.

Women LEAD Nepal celebrated the Third International Day of the Girl Child in collaboration with AMK, CARE Nepal, CWIN Nepal, Equal Access Nepal , Plan Nepal, Restless Development Nepal, UNESCO Office in Kathmandu , UNFPA Nepal, UNHCR NEPAL, UNICEF Nepal, VSO Nepal and Yuwalaya. The three-day Girl Power Conference focusing on the theme “Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence", had several of our LEADers taking part in the conference as facilitators and volunteers.

We also had a session on “Sexual Identity and Expressions” which was led by Adea and Catherine from Where There Be Dragons . Our LEADers discussed issues like women's reproductive health, sexual health awareness. They also familiarized themselves with helpful blogs and websites that they could refer to regarding women's reproductive health during the session.

Women LEAD also held a Blog Workshop by Diane Fender from Girls’ Globe. The session was about starting up a blog and determining its content. Our LEADers discussed the importance of blogging and the kind of change they hope to see as bloggers in the near future. We also successfully completed an Advanced Excel Training Course which will help our LEADers manage their databases in a more efficient manner.

Most recently, we had the Women on a Mission Singapore team in our office. They led fun, engaging, educative and interactive workshops for our LEADers. Four parallel workshops were held on diverse topics like developing leadership skills, entrepreneurship, learning how to make an effective business plan, gender equality and fostering innovative community project ideas.
