Update Report

By Vinaya Acharekar | Grant Writer

Thank you for your generous donation and taking opportunities to participate and help women and girls improve their lives. We appreciate your investing in DWN work.

Your donation helped us to achieve the following:

  • Registered Darfur Women Network as non-profit organization in Sudan and opened two Offices, one in Sudan and another one in Darfur.
  • Established Control on ground with people of same culture and trustworthy.
  • Secured Women Centre/workplace in Nyala, South Darfur state. The centre is made of Shelter built from local materials like fabric, and bricks.
  • Trained women from displaced, vulnerable, and poor families on liquid and bar soap and detergent to secure their steady income.
  • Recruited passionate volunteers on different positions such as Executive director, Logistics manager, public relation, National Director from Khartoum office along with dedicated volunteers are present on the ground.

Women and children make up most of the population in the camps and they are unable to meet their basic living needs.  Lack of social services coupled with the absence of critical infrastructure for drinking water and sanitation expose these vulnerable communities to numerous challenges, life-threatening situations, including malnutrition and diseases.

DWN have Built connections with participants, Government and other organisations working on development.

Most of these communities have been suffering from severe trauma as they witnessed horrific atrocities inflicted on their families, while watching their villages, water resources, livestock and farms get completely destroyed.  They continue to face protection risks, especially women and girls who are constantly threatened by harassment and crimes of sexual violence.  As well as the children who forced to drop out schools to work to expose themselves to exploitation, abuse, harassment, sexual assault, and violence against children. The DWN focuses on providing  technical support, workplace, raw materials, and management as well as marketing to enable mothers to secure steady income to eradicate child laborers and resend the dropouts back to schools.

DWN was able to train displaced women on liquid, detergent, and bar soap. They gained technical knowledge and skills to make high quality soap to secure their steady income to improve their livelihood. The DWN has provided these women with program incubating by securing production materials, workplace, technical support, and marketing to its participants.

The DWN focuses on education for dropouts’ children who are laborers, now.

Eventually, the economic is crisis due to conflicts and insecurity situation outside the city which prohibited agricultural activities. Therefore, we need your support to secure stipend to encourage our volunteers to stay on their positions.

The Darfur Women Network invites you to donate to displaced, vulnerable women and their children. We consider this as an opportunity to harness the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in your community. Here is our link:
