Hello, Darfur Women Network’s donors and friends,
Greetings,
Over the past year, Darfur Women Network has supported women and children whose lives have been negatively impacted by decades of conflict in Darfur by providing displaced women with the Economic Empowerment Project, which enables families to overcome poverty, adapt means of sustainable development, and empower women to improve their livelihood.
We have been helping women from displaced and vulnerable families with capacity building, teamwork, and societal peacebuilding to make high-quality soap to earn income to improve their families’ livelihood.
We evaluated to measure the depth of implementation of soap making project in 2021, which provides a deep understanding of how our participants perceive their social impact, their entrepreneurial knowledge and technical skills, personal experience, their perspective, and develops a real sense of a person’s understanding of a situation.
Also, prove the success of the project while finding ways to scale it and improve it.
The soap-making project has a positive direct impact on our participants and their families, their community, and the neighborhood where the workplace is located. The displaced women fled their villages due to the destruction of the sources of life. They are uneducated, unskilled, and have no steady jobs or income. However, they realized the power and importance of education and training that enable them to make high-quality bars and liquid soap and detergent. They are excited when they make the soap and test it. More importantly, they gain self-trust and confidence.
Making soap, marketing, and generating revenue have proved to our participants that they can earn a steady income and improve their family's livelihood.
As a result, these women are considered social change agents because they changed the perspectives of women and displaced at large about themselves, and their dependency on aid and convey a message that via the capacity-building program, resources, and technical support, displaced women can play a vital role in achieving sustainable development and economic growth as well as self-reliance and resiliency. Thus, they have changed the perception of the community towards women and their ability to build their capacity, be productive, and improve their families' livelihood.
Moreover, this project has a direct impact on the neighborhood where our workplace is located by securing high-quality soap for families for a reasonable price and low-income families have received hygiene items as well. Moreover, their community learned about the ability of displaced women to work peacefully in a team with others from four camps which reflects women's solidarity and network. They secure personal hygiene items when participants received soaps at no cost
In conclusion, DWN believes that this project achieved its goals, with high performance, efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability because we use our expertise to identify, define, and solve soap-making challenges and build successful strategies and action plans to achieve our respective goals and objectives
