Project Report | Oct 8, 2024
Updated report

By Mastora Bakhiet | Executive Director

Dear GlobalGiving Team, our  donors, and our supporters,

On behalf of Darfur Women Network, I would like to express my gratetitiude for your passionate support. I would like to share update to your project.

The Darfur Women Network (DWN) operates two key programs:

  1. Women's Economic Empowerment Program: This program helps women overcome poverty by promoting sustainable income generation through small-scale projects, financial resources, and technical training. It enables women to provide education, healthcare, and shelter for their children, fostering long-term economic development.
  2. Family Social Program: Focuses on raising awareness about women's and children's rights, addressing issues like child labor, education, and counseling support.

As of April 2023, Sudan's conflict has intensified, creating a severe humanitarian crisis. Over 24.7 million people need assistance, with 6 million displaced internally and 1.2 million refugees fleeing to neighboring countries. In North Darfur, displacement is rampant, especially in Janjaweed-controlled areas, where violence, human trafficking, sexual violence, and abductions have escalated. El Geneina in West Darfur has witnessed particularly horrific atrocities, including gender-based violence and human trafficking.

In October 2023, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Janjaweed, seized army bases in three Darfur state capitals, using advanced weapons to target non-Arab populations, burning homes, and burying young people alive. The Janjaweed militia remains involved in these atrocities.

Amid this crisis, DWN and its partner GlobalGiving are providing emergency relief through the Sudan Emergency Fund, offering food, water, and essential services. DWN, which has been supporting displaced in Nyala, South Darfur since 2023, refugees in Chad since 2014, established emergency mechanisms in El Fasher by September 2024 to assist those affected by the conflict.

DWN is witnessing the devastation firsthand, affecting millions, including its volunteers. As the conflict subsides, DWN will focus on long-term recovery, mapping out plans for emergency aid, resilience, and transitioning to on-ground efforts in Sudan once the situation stabilizes. The organization remains committed to rebuilding lives and restoring dignity through its partnerships and proactive response strategies. Here is your link: http://goto.gg/47978
