Update Report - Women and Children's Rights

Update Report – Women and Children’s Rights, Protection & Empowerment

Date: September 26, 2025

Introduction & Gratitude

We extend our deepest gratitude for your generous donation and steadfast support. Our partnership with GlobalGiving has enabled Darfur Women Network (DWN) to continue providing life-saving assistance for women and children who fled ongoing violence in four states and now live under siege in El Fasher, North Darfur.

Through your generosity, DWN’s two courageous local teams have kept two community kitchens running inside the besieged city. These kitchens are not just distributing meals—they are saving lives. Families who had resorted to eating umbaz, a non-nutritive substance, are now receiving real food. Your support turned despair into survival.

Current Humanitarian Situation in El Fasher

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have besieged El Fasher for over 500 days, trapping hundreds of thousands of civilians with little or no access to food, medicine, or essential supplies. The situation has now escalated to famine conditions and a catastrophic humanitarian emergency.

  • Intensified Attacks: More than 300 drone strikes daily and 245 ground assaults have devastated the city. On September 19, a drone strike on a mosque killed over 75 worshippers, including children.
  • Famine: North Darfur has reached the highest level of food insecurity—defined by hunger, malnutrition, and rising mortality. Acute malnutrition has exceeded the 30% emergency threshold in some areas.
  • Aid Blockade: All supply routes remain blocked, cutting off humanitarian aid for over a year.
  • Health Collapse: Hospitals are destroyed or non-functional. Cholera has broken out, worsened by the collapse of water and sanitation systems. Children are especially vulnerable.
  • Mass Displacement: In mid-September, over 7,500 people fled Abu Shouk displacement camp and other areas due to intensified RSF attacks. Civilians escaping the city face robberies, assaults, and sexual violence.

Human Rights Violations & International Concerns

The humanitarian crisis is compounded by systematic violence against civilians:

  • Targeted violence: Civilians fleeing are executed or assaulted. Sexual violence is rampant.
  • Children at risk: Grave violations include killing, maiming, abduction, and sexual violence.
  • International crimes: The International Criminal Court reports “reasonable grounds” to believe war crimes and crimes against humanity are being committed.
  • Genocide warning: The Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect warns the RSF is “highly likely” to commit systematic mass atrocities if they capture the city.
  • Aid workers under attack: Delivering humanitarian assistance is increasingly dangerous.

The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have described this as one of the worst crises in the world today.

Your Impact & Our Call to Action

Despite unimaginable challenges, your donations through GlobalGiving have provided hope where there was none. Together, we:

  • Delivered life-saving meals to women, children, and families trapped under siege.
  • Preserved dignity and resilience by offering an alternative to umbaz.
  • Kept hope alive for thousands facing starvation and violence.

But the situation is worsening daily. With intensified attacks, famine, and collapsing health systems, more lives are at immediate risk.

We appeal to you, our partners and supporters, to:

  1. Continue your generous support—every contribution saves lives.
  2. Help us raise awareness—share this crisis within your networks to amplify the voices of women and children trapped in El Fasher.
  3. Stand with us in advocacy—urge international actors to protect civilians and open humanitarian corridors.

Conclusion

Your compassion and commitment have already saved lives. Today, more than ever, the people of El Fasher need you. Together, we can ensure women and children are not forgotten in the face of famine, violence, and siege. Here is your project: http://goto.gg/47978

With deep gratitude and urgent appeal,
