Indigenous Women's Leadership Program

This past December Centro de Compartimiento offered, once again, a workshop about looking at our family and personal history and how they have affected our lives today.  The workshop was open to the public and along with our women's group and scholarship students and the public we had 35 participants in the group.  We have had this workshop yearly over many years although this was the first time back since the pandemic.  

The big difference this year was that the facilitator brought with her a male co-facilitator and we also had several male participants.  We have got to give credit to the men because so much of the pain and trauma that the women in our culture have suffered came at the hands of men, abandonment by fathers, husbands, sexual and physical abuse, the list is sadly endless and that suffering often translates to blaming most or all men.  It is not easy to stand in front of the pain that others have caused.  In this year's workshop the women were more able to connect with and release the anger they had with the men in their lives in the presence of men who were not only able and willing to accept that anger and work with it, but could show a different aspect of masculinity.

Many of the women were amazed to see and feel the support of good men.  This step towards healing was needed in many of the women and helped give all a better way to see and choose healthy relationships in their own lives. 

With the support that you give to our program we are able to bring these workshop to our community.  So few groups are doing any work to heal the trauma and we are grateful for your support that gives us the opportunity to bring these programs to our region.
