Summer Soccer Time!
Ladies’ Turn is gearing up for the summer soccer in Thies! We had to delay our spring activities in schools because of a teacher strike. In May, we were able to get back out there. On May 6-7, 2022, we organized a coaches’ training for coaches of girls’ teams at the 14 schools we work with in Thies. Our coaches are still mostly men but we are excited to have a few more women participate. Hopefully one day we will get to 50-50 or more! On June 1, we distributed equipment, balls, and uniforms to the schools for our summer soccer activities. So now we’re all set to start playing!
The other exciting summer soccer news is that Senegalese women’s team qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations and is competing in the Cup in Morocco in July. The Cup runs from July 2 to 23. Besides trying to win the cup, the teams are playing to be in the top 11 who will qualify for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023. Senegal’s first game is on July 3 against Uganda. Our President Seyni Ndir Seck will be attending the Cup in her capacity as President of the Women’s Soccer Commission at the Senegalese Federation for Soccer. We wish Seyni and the Lionnesses luck!
Wishing everyone a joyful summer and some soccer wins! Thank you for your support!
