Our new program Jigeen Foot (Girl’s Soccer) offering sports for girls for the first time in primary schools in Dakar was a success. During the spring semester, every week we organized soccer for 300 girls at 6 schools in Yoff, a neighborhood of Dakar. The goal is twofold. We want to introduce girls to soccer so they experience what it means to play a sport. We also want to convince the school system to offer sports for girls, not just boys, in primary schools.
The exciting news is that your donations which fully funded the spring semester pilot let us demonstrate the value of this program and attract more funding. Impact 2024 International is now providing 16,000 euros and Decathlon, the French "REI", donated 5,000 euros. This new fuding covers the program costs for next year!
On the school side, the girls who participated are also asking to play more soccer. The Mayor of Yoff wants to mobilize even more resources to expand to more schools. So hopefully in the future, we'll be able to reach more schools and girls until the school system takes it on systemwide. For now, we’ve paused for summer break, but the program will start up again with the new school year.
Thank you again for your loyal support. It let us launch this program that we’ve been wanting to do for years!
Nio far, in solidarity,
Jennifer and the Ladies' Turn Team
