Dear all,
As project coordinator I have recently come back from a visit to Bolivia. I have to say, the girls took my breath away ! Not only have they learnt new skills in jewelry making and sewing, but they have gained massive confidence in themsleves and the future.
Many of these girls were not long ago caught up in prosititution networks or sexual abuse cases, and today thanks to you, they are empowering themselves for a better future !
When I arrived at the two centres where our project is now operating and asked the girls what they have learnt over the last few months they proudly said : " I thought I couldn't, but I could, I can and I will be able to"... they are right, the hardest part is behind them and now they are gaining the tools to build a brighter future for themselves.
Attached you will find a few photos of their wonderful work and progress. But first, I'd like to translate a few of the things the girls have said to their psychologists at the centre (for legal reasons we cannot reveal their real names) :
M. said "When I used to live with my mummy she used to sew, I grew up between the machines, I had an idea how to use them but not very well, now I can sew and I think my mummy will be proud of me when she sees what I can do".
After a workshop on self confidence R said "everyday I reread the sentences I wrote in my self confidence classes and then I believe in myself again, I believe I can be who I want to be".
