Bear cubs in Libearty Sanctuary Romania

By Rosa Wortelboer | Fundraising officer

Serafim
Serafim

A bear that young loses its mother is hopeless. With your help we keep Serafim alive.
Bear Serafim crawled up to his mother, but she was no longer moving. She had fallen into an illegal trap of poachers and had not survived. Still, Serafim stayed with her for days. His anguished cries were heard by passersby who alerted the authorities. When Serafim was found, he was starving and motherly alone. He was only 7 months old.

6 bear cubs mother alone Serafim's fate is unfortunately not an isolated one.
Due to the massive bear hunts in Romania, countless bear cubs remain motherly alone. Without their mother's care and guidance, they have no chance of surviving in the wild. They simply don't know how. Fortunately, we were able to give Serafim and 5 other bear cubs a place at our bear sanctuary Libearty.

At Libearty, they can be bears again.
At bear sanctuary Libearty, over 120 adult bears - and now 6 bear cubs - have found a new home. The bears have often been kept at restaurants, gas stations and illegal zoos. At Libearty, they receive healthy food and proper care in a natural environment. So the bears are given a life as similar as possible to a bear's life in the wild. Sheltering over 120 bears costs a lot of money. You can help with a donation.

Wild bears live about 25 years, but with proper care, bears at Libearty can live up to 35 years. All those years they need fresh fruit, meat, vitamins, honey and sometimes medicine. Just healthy food for one bear costs over 20 euros per week. That is why we need you. With a donation we can offer more bears a bear worthy existence. Bears cannot return to the wild. But at Libearty, the bears live in an environment as close as possible to their life in the wild. That costs a lot of money.

Contribute to their care: So please support the bears today.
Thank you!
