Upcoming Trip to Tohoku with Social Entrepreneurs

By Mio Yamamoto | Executive Director

Dear our generous supporters,

WIT will host a trip to Tohoku to meet with social entrepreneurs from November 10th to 12th as our 9th Journey program to Tohoku. This year, we will visit Iwate prefecture, one of the heavily affected from the 2011 earthquakt and tsunami.

We will meet with one of the social entrepreneurs I respect the most - Miyoko Sato from Mammaru Mom Iwate. You may have read about her in our past reports. Her organizatio provides care for pregnant and mothers with newborn babies in remote communities far from hospitals. Mammaru Mom Iwate's inspiriting support has been a go-to place for thousands of families both physically and mentally.

Another social entrepreneur we will meet during the trip is Next Commons Lab in Tono. They incubate local entrepreneurs to revitalize local communities across Japan. Next Commons Lab in Tono has various fun projects in progress from music, art, brewery, cafe to history learning. You will be amazed by the beautiful nature in Tono, which is also known for horse riding and horse therapy.

If you are interested in joinin us, please visit the program details.

During the trip, we will listen to the social entrepreneurs to learn about their activities, strengthes and challenges. WIT will host a dialogue and discussion between the trip participants from overseas and Japan and the entrepreneurs to brainstorm how to address their challenges and further scale their impact.

We can't wait to send our report after the trip!

Many thanks for your support,

Mio
