Connecting Asia's Impact: AVPN Conference Insights

By Mio Yamamoto | Co-Founder and Executive Director

AVPN Conference 2025
AVPN Conference 2025

Last month, I attended the AVPN (Asian Venture Philanthropy Network) Global Conference 2025 in Hong Kong from September 9–11. The conference brought together around 1,500 participants—mainly funders investing through grants, debt, or equity—who are driving social impact across Asia.

I had the opportunity to attend this conference alongside Yukio Oshima, the founder of Kizunamail Project—a nonprofit World in You has been supporting since 2015. Kizunamail prevents isolation in parenting through timely text messaging that supports parents during pregnancy and childhood. Together, we explored new possibilities in philanthropy and impact investing, learning from leaders across Asia and beyond.

We work to connect Japanese nonprofits and social enterprises with opportunities overseas, and I was delighted to participate in this year's conference. Over three inspiring days, I explored new possibilities in philanthropy and impact investing—from Asia to the world—and summarized my reflections in a blog post.

Key Topics I Found Inspiring:

Challenges in Asian leadership and inclusion

Integrated approaches to climate change × health × gender

The Intersection of Philanthropy and Impact Investing

Outcome-Based Approaches and Systemic Change

Among the many discussions, I was particularly struck by the importance of "connecting contexts." With so many participants each viewing the world from different perspectives, I was reminded how essential it is to understand one another's contexts. This also reaffirmed the value of organizations like World in You, which aim to bridge those different worlds.

With gratitude,

Mio Yamamoto Executive Director, World in You
