Support them on their path to a brighter future!

By Cinthya Castillo, Tammy Kjos | Centro Infantil de los Angeles

How do we know that Centro Infantil de los Angeles is a high quality, early childhood center?  We hear it from our parents, we hear it from our volunteers, many of whom are teachers, and we see our students thrive!  In addition, their primary school scores show that they are learning at the same rate or better than their peers.

Santiago is just one of our success stories.

Santiago (Santy) has been a student at Centro Infantil de los Ángeles (CILA) since he was 9 months old. He lives with his mom and his grandmother. Due to economic problems, his mother needed to work overtime to cover the expenses of the house they rent. When he arrived at the preschool, he had a medical diagnosis indicating that he had motor retardation and he only attended CILA 3 times per week. As he grew older, he made great strides and began to attend classes all week. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Santy studied at home supported by his grandmother. When we returned to face-to-face classes, a great cognitive advance was noted, greater than that of his classmates, and the SISAT exam was applied. Santy, at four years old, solved it as if he were five years old. Currently, he is in the 3rd year of preschool and he knows how to read fluently. Santy is really excited to continue on to primary school.

Please continue to help us provide meaningful, early childhood education to low-income children.  We know that children from low-income areas tend to fall behind their peers in school. At CILA we help families break that cycle.

Thank you for all you do to support our center!
