YALP 2023

As you know, YALP (Young Antiracist Leadership Project) is a project that aims to strengthen the capacities of 10 young antiracist leaders between 18 and 29 years old, to implement initiatives in their communities and combat racism in Mexico.

The YALP Project emerged as a response to the need to raise awareness and promote social change in our Mexican society. At Racismo MX (Education against Racism, A.C.), we have been dedicated to developing educational and digital content to combat racism, as well as conducting research on its operation in Mexico.

Within the framework of the YALP Project, we have made significant progress to date. Our focus is on strengthening the capacities of young antiracist leaders and providing them with the necessary tools and support to implement their projects in the communities.

In the third edition of YALP 2023, we have developed two phases. In the first phase, we conducted a call for applications, which ran from June 26th to June 30th. For the promotion of the YALP 2023 call for applications, we reached out to participants from the 2nd generation and asked them to share testimonials about their experience in the program, as well as to invite young individuals aged between 18 and 29 to participate and received over 50 applications from young people from all over the country, including individuals from Haiti and Cuba. These applications were reviewed and evaluated by our RacismoMX team, and 10 finalists were selected to advance to the next stage of the process.

In the second phase, the finalists will participate in an interview process, where we will have the opportunity to delve deeper into their projects and evaluate their viability and potential impact. Through this process, we will select the final 10 participants for the YALP Project.

The YALP Project is scheduled for its third edition, which will take place in a hybrid format, with one week online and another week in person in Mexico City, from September 18th to 30th, 2023. This combination of modalities allows us to adapt to the current circumstances and ensure the participation of young antiracist leaders from different regions of the country.

Our project has received great acceptance and support from the community. So far, we have succeeded in raising awareness about racism in Mexico and providing a platform for young antiracist leaders to develop and execute their projects in their communities.

As the YALP Project progresses, we are committed to monitoring and evaluating the progress of the projects implemented by the participants. Additionally, we will continue to identify opportunities for the continuity of the project and the expansion of our activities, with the aim of achieving lasting impact in the fight against racism in Mexico.
