Provide Youth in Zimbabwe with Hope

I had the privilege of leading two Volunteer with a Purpose teams to Zimbabwe this summer and together, we learned, taught, worked together, and had the most wonderful time. One of the places where we worked was at an orphanage called Family Harvest Village, where we spent a week painting the children's homes, a guesthouse and the office.  We played with children, learned a song in N'debele, forged new relationships, and even helped clear land from thorny bushes.  We were beat by the end of the week there, but we had the best time ever!

We also helped with the building and the funding of a chicken coop which now houses 1000 chickens purchased by AFCA.  These hens are supplying food for Family Harvest Village, as well as four other orphanages in Bulawayo, giving them the protein they so desperately need.  The rest of the eggs are sold, with most of the profits kept for the building of a second coop and the rest of the profits going directly to the orphanage to provide other needed food for the kids. We are so excited to see children eating well and to see a project which is working well!

It was exciting to give each child a handmade, colorful and beautiful pillowcase, along with a new set of sheets.  We also left school backpacks with supplies for the new school year which will be given to the kids at Christmas time, along with pajamas and shoes, saving the orphanage staff from having to purchase more gifts. We can't wait to see photos of their little faces, happy with their new treasures, all specially chosen for each of them.

Thank you for providing children hope.  Because of YOU, they are eating eggs.  Because of YOU, they have school supplies.  And, because of YOU, children like Prince, Joseph, Mercy, Michael, and Veronica know they are loved.
